Undergraduate stipendiater 2009-2010

Daniel Håbesland

Daniel Håbesland, St. Olaf College

” I am extremely grateful that I have been given this opportunity to pursue a college education in the United States and to follow the dreams and aspirations I have held for several years.  My hope has always been, and still is, that my education and experiences at college will open up endless possibilities in the future, and I can gladly say that I am starting to see this happening already.  The past few months have without a doubt been some of the best of my life, and I cannot wait to see what the next few years have in store.”

- Daniel Håbesland, St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, USA

Maja Vik

Maja Vik, California Lutheran University

“I am now on my second semester, the last semester of my sophomore year. Time goes by so fast, but I believe the time that has gone by has been well spent. I have met so many fascinating people that have enriched my life in so many ways. Also, I have encountered and experienced so many challenges that I feel have improved my life. While living in the US I feel like I can breathe. By that I mean, I feel that there is so many opportunities, unlimited.  There is so much knowledge to gain by stepping outside your comfort zone, and at this time for me, that is in the US. I know I will be moving back to Norway eventually, but at the moment, I am really trying to enjoy this amazing opportunity to the fullest. I feel that after taking my degree here, I will have so much more to offer when I come back home, not only to others, but also for my own being. In addition to becoming even more independent, I am more open-minded and appreciative. I definitely believe a college degree outside of Norway will benefit me when applying for a job later in life. My opinion is that the quality one possesses of being open-minded will open so many opportunities for your professional life. Throughout ones life one will meet so many different people from different places and with different values and morals than oneself. It is therefore important to have the ability to understand and respect this, as well as being able to communicate regardless of these differences. I feel this is a quality I improve everyday and that will benefit me now, as well as later in life. I look forward to the next years completing my college degree, as well as “putting into life” what I have learned and experienced these years into my future life. Thank you so much for this opportunity, NORAM has been an amazing support, giving me the foundation to realize my dream of studying in the US.”

Mohamed Bouzakraft

Mohamed Bouzakraft, Pacific Lutheran University

Not only am I playing soccer, but I am also getting an education as well, which is the key in life. Not only do I speak another language fluently, I've also gotten lots of friends from different places around the world. I also know how it is to live away from home, doing laundry, cleaning up, taking care of myself and many other things. I would really recommend this to people who are considering getting an education abroad. There is nothing to lose, and in case you want to continue studying back home in your country, the opportunity to shift school is there. This has been a very good experience for me, and I'm looking forward to my upcoming semesters. My plan is to get my whole degree here, move back to Norway and hopefully get a very good job.

Joanna Sundal

Joanna Sundal, Saint Mary's University, Canada

“I am very pleased to be given the change to study abroad. I feel that you gain a lot more than just a bachelor degree when you study abroad ? you will get the change to make lifelong friends in another country, experience another country and learn about their culture, and you will also be able to improve a language which most likely is not your mother tongue. I would recommend studying abroad if this is something you really want to try. I am at least very satisfied with my choice.”
